Obtaining a criminal record check from your home country

If you are asked to present a criminal record check from your home country (UK) please see below:

Please note: The Turkish authorities only accept the criminal record check if it is provided with an apostille stamp. (For information on how to get an Apostille stamp click here) Citizens of countries that are not parties to the Hague Apostille Convention (such as Russia and most Arabian countries) must have the document authenticated by their Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the consulates of their country in Turkey (procedures vary, please inquire in detail).
The authenticated document must be translated into Turkish by a sworn translator and notarised.

Police record check from the UK (except Scotland) through ACRO

ACRO Criminal Records Office is a national police unit in the UK. While there are some other providers who disclose information on employee candidates to employers, ACRO provides police certificates for immigration purposes. Turkey is not listed on their website, but the ACRO police certificate is accepted by the Turkish migration office (Göç İdaresi).
The application for the certificate can be made by post, but for applicants living abroad the online application is much quicker. You need a scanner and a debit or credit card AND:

1. Proofs of your current address - You must upload TWO different proofs of address which clearly show your name and address, and one must be dated within the last six months (a yerleşim belgesi from your local Nüfus Müdürlüğü will be perfect). Valid proofs of address include bank statements, utility bills or phone bills. You can also provide letters from your doctor or dentist, if they are signed and dated on company headed paper.

  2. A recent passport style colour photograph - You must upload one recent passport style photograph that clearly identifies you (the applicant). This photograph will be included on your Police Certificate. Your photograph should meet the same standards required for a UK passport (approximately 45mm x 35mm).

  3. Copies of your passport - You must upload copies of your passport / travel document which clearly show your photograph, personal information, expiry date, nationality, machine readable zone, extension pages and signature (if applicable).

4. Copies of any necessary legal documents e.g. Power of Attorney, authorisation document, signed letter of authority etc (if applicable). Please note that it is possible to give a third person authority to apply on your behalf - YellAli will be happy to make the application for you.

  5. A valid email address

  6. Your address history - You must provide your address history for the last 10 years, including the dates you lived at the addresses. If you have lived outside of the UK for more than 10 years you will also be asked to provide your last UK address.

  7. Endorser details - Your application must be endorsed by a suitable individual. We require your endorser’s full name, occupation, relationship to you (e.g. friend, employer etc. but NOT family), a telephone number, and their email address as we may send your passport photograph to them as part of our check.

Depending on how quickly you need the criminal record check the standard service is 45 GBP (10 working days) and the Premium service (2 working days) is 80 GBP. Please note: ACRO will not send the certificate to the Apostille office, so you have to give the address of a trusted person in the UK who will do it for you.
All in all, from the application to receipt of the apostilled police record check, calculate approximately 3 weeks.

Police record check from Germany
Police record checks from Germany are much cheaper (13 Euro) and can be obtained from the Bundesamt für Justiz In opposition to the UK certificate an online application is only possible if your ID-card has been opened for electronic use, otherwise you have to send your documents by post or fax. An application through a third person is also not possible, but the authority will pass the police certificate on to the “Bundesamt für Verwaltung” which provides the apostille, and then send to your Turkish address.
