The card can be purchased for 6 TL and you can ad pre paid credit to the maximum value if 150 TL.

The benefits of the IstanbulKart

Accepted by most public transportation — You are able to use several types of public transportation in Istanbul including: buses, metros, ferries, funiculars, and tramways

Pre-Paid — The IstanbulKart is a prepaid and rechargeable card. Which means it is so much easier than buying tokens or tickets every time you use public transport.

Easy to use —You can pay for your fare by ‘waving’ the smart IstanbulKart within 8 cm of the card reader. Meaning that most of the time you don’t even have to take it out of your wallet or purse.

Multiple Travelers — The IstanbulKart can be used for up to 5 passengers, so you do not have the expense of buying numerous cards.

Discounts —10% discount over the normal fare. Instead of paying 2 TL per ride, you pay 1.95.  The fares decrease per transfer up to five times within a two-hour period,

Example the first trip may cost1.10 TL
so the second will 0.45 TL
up till the fifth time of 0.40 TL

The Istanbulkart also offers a card just for Students, a reduced fare card.

Students need to show proof that they are studying in Istanbul by providing a student certificate (Öğrenci Belgesi) an official document from the University stating that you are a student, as well as an application form, which the university will also provide.

The student card is 10TL.

The Istanbulkart also offers cards at discounted fare rates for teachers, social workers, disabled persons and the elderly
