Did you know that Tiger Woods recently played in Turkey as part of the inaugural Turkish Airlines Open held in Belek, just east of Antalya. He was one of a number of high quality professionals who played in the Open.
This is just one signal to the world of the desire to make Turkey one of the most compelling golfing destinations in the world. With over 300 days of sun and mild temperatures in winter Belek is the flag bearer for Turkish golf.
Belek is now regarded as a year round alternative to the more established destinations of southern Spain and Portugals Algave due to its warm temperatures and competitive prices.
The first course in Belek was opened in 1994 and there are now 14 other impressive courses designed by the likes of Nick Faldo, Colin Montmogery and Peter Thompson, just to name a few.
YourGolf Travel estimates that around 25,000 golfers from the UK make the trip to play in the sunshine. There is even a proposal for Turkey to host the 2022 Ryder cup as an alternative to Ireland and the UK.
So lets watch this space but clearly golf in Turkey has definitely teed off.
