Turkey vs Spain: The Battle of The Beach

6th April 2016

It’s no secret that Turkey has been struggling recently in the tourism sector, the difficulty is that it’s not one issue but a range of issues that have added up. And combined with some very bad luck Turkey’s tourism woes don’t look to be ending any time soon.

But while Turkey’s numbers have been falling Spain’s have been rising as more tourists opt for a Spanish holiday. And while competition is certainly more prevalent now given recent events both Turkey and Spain have been pitted against each other many times in the past due to their popularity with tourists.

The Turkish Touch
So while Spain is winning the race for now who knows what the future could hold? After all in 2008 Turkey did officially take over Spain as the British’s favourite holiday destination so who knows it could happen again in a few years. Turkey and Spain are quite similar in many ways but Turkey does have a few perks that many other countries can’t really match, let’s take a look at some of them in more detail shall we?

The Cost: The price tag is always going to be an important factor when trying to decide where you should holiday and while Spain is often thought to be quite cheap it really does all depend on whereabouts you’re going. And due to Turkey’s current tourism slump prices in many popular tourist resorts are actually available at bargain prices.

The Culture: Turkey is the place where the east meets the west literally giving you the rare opportunity to meet a wide range of people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. You’ll make new friends, learn new things and you might discover more about yourself at the same time.

Beaches Galore: Ok this one is a bit unfair after all Spain does have plenty of lovely beaches but are they better than the ones you’ll find in Turkey? Well that’s for you to decide isn’t it? But with glorious beaches like Kabak Bay in Ölüdeniz and Hotel Kum in Saros Bay (to name just a couple) rivalling Turkey’s best beaches is going to be a difficult task.

Great All Year Round: Spain is often considered to be a great place to visit during the spring and summer months, but how many people want to visit in the chiller autumn and winter ones? You might be thinking isn’t Turkey the same? While Turkey is more popular in the spring and summer it also as a growing fan base of visitors who enjoy the cooler and usually calmer autumns and you might be surprised with just how many people love visiting in the winter for skiing and similar activities.

Turkey vs Spain - So who Wins ?As the tourist in all this you are the real winners and both Turkey and Spain would make great places to visit. But just because Turkey is lagging behind right now doesn’t mean it’s not a great place to visit after all there’s still plenty to see and do. Plus it probably won’t stay that way for long and as we’ve seen there’s plenty of things to do at Turkey that just aren’t matched anywhere else in the world, in our opinion anyway.
