Drink Pomegranate Juice Everyday And See How Much Your Health Improves

Pomegranate (Nar) season begins here in Turkey.

The beautiful pomegranate or Nar as it’s known here, with its jewel like red seed’s is extremely important in Turkey and other Eastern cultures and traditions, as well as their diets.

The pomegranate leads back to Persia and is thought to be one of the world’s most ancient foods. It symbolises fertility. It’s also a prominent character in much of the Islamic, Christian and Jewish art. 
Historically, the pomegranate is noticeable in many religions, and appears in Holy texts. An Islamic legend says that each fruit contains one seed that has descended from paradise.

Aside from being used as food, the pomegranate had many uses. The juice has a tonic to kill parasites, the blossoms were used to make a red dye, and the peel was used to dye leather.
You can see the pomegranate everywhere in winter, sold on market stalls or freshly squeezed by hand or juicer.  The very popular ‘Nar eksisi’ is used on salads throughout the year.

Every big city seems to have its own symbols, the pomegranate is definitely on of Istanbul’s.  Introduced to North America and it can be found in California, Arizona and many places in Latin America.

An old tradition in Turkey was at New Year’s celebrations.  As midnight approached, a pomegranate would be smashed against the ground or front door.  The more pieces it broke in to, the more luck and fortune you would have in the New Year.

The really special thing about the pomegranate are its endless health benefits, it is amongst one of the world’s healthiest foods.
