Voting in upcoming elections - Note to our members

10th May 2018

Note to our members who have Turkish citizenship:

If you want to vote in the upcoming general elections on June 24th, you have until the 12th of May to check whether your name is on the voter list.
Voter lists are open for publicly examination at your muhtar’s (headman of your neighbourhood) office.

Registering as a voter
In case your name does not appear on the list you must register or change your address at the İlçe Nüfus Müdürlüğü (District Public Registration Office) responsible for your area.
Until the 12th, all Nüfus offices are open every day (including week-ends) to cope with the overwhelming number of applicants.
After having registered your address you will be given a narrow piece of paper to be given to the muhtar and an A4 page which must be submitted to the İlçe Seçim Kurulu (district election board). The election boards are attached to the Ministry of Justice, so they are usually located in the district courts. Here you can find all İlçe Seçim Kurulu addresses
If you haven’t signed up with the election board you cannot vote.

Prior to the election a final list with all voters and the related ballot box will be published at your muhtar’s office.
Just before the election, all voters can collect their Voter ID slip of paper from the Muhtar’s office, which will save a little time checking again at your voting place.
