Izmir is Turkey’s third largest city, located along the Aegean Sea region with a population of 3.354.93. Izmir has stunning natural beauty combined with a modern lively city which makes it a popular tourist destination. Izmir is nicknamed “Pearl of the Aegean”


Izmir offers a unique culture mixture – traditional houses between modern buildings, local markets and modern shopping malls, historical sites and a huge harbour.
The more interesting parts of Izmir are located in and around the city centre starting at the Konak square where the clock tower is located. In the district of Konak you will find the ancient castle, the museum of archaeology and ethnography and the traditional Kemeralti bazaar.

In the district of Bornova in Izmir you will find the former summer mansions for many foreign consuls and wealthy businessmen. Most of them were built in the 19th century, recently restored, still carrying their old names like: Whittall, Maltass or Giraud. Bornova is the district with the most public parks, a racing cycle and the very modern Forum Bornova Shopping Mall. The famous Ege University is located here making this area a young, urban district with many cafes, bars and a thriving nightlife.

Alsancak is the place for the urban upper class of Izmir. It holds not only the biggest container harbour in Turkey – it is as well the place for an excellent classy nightlife. You will find many chic boutiques and shops, and a very good variety of international Restaurants and Bars. Alsancak is the classy shopping area and business centre in Izmir

The district of Balcova has a beautiful harbour with a museum ship and submarine docking there, which is open for visitors. The area also has three large shopping malls and the popular attraction the Agamemnon Baths - thermal baths is a great place to visit.

Popular beach resorts like Kusadasi are only 90 km away so you can combine urban city life with a lovely relaxing beach holiday.
