Marmaris is located where the Turkish Riviera and the Aegean Sea meet. It has a population of 35.000 which peaks at around 300,000 to 400,000 during the tourism season. Marmaris is a very popular tourist destination, becoming very crowded in the summer months. The big natural harbour surrounded by little bays with small, almost private beaches, small islands and the Taurus Mountains surrounding it, make Marmaris a very beautiful area within Turkey. The little castle which is surrounded by old timber-framed houses adds to the scenic charm of Marmaris. In the evening the town becomes very lively with its many bars and discos.
Water sports are a major attraction in Marmaris. Sailing, diving, surfing, water-ski, jet-ski, motorboats and banana riding – all can be enjoyed from one of the beaches in and around Marmaris.
Two major privately owned marinas – Yacht Marin and Netsel Marina - and several smaller ones are a great place to stroll around, admiring the sailboats, private yachts and Cruise ships. The car free promenade is brimmed with chic boutiques, local stores, Restaurants and Cafes.
