Troy is an archaeological site where the legendary Trojan War took place. It is located 370km south of Istanbul and 315km north to Izmir. The city of Troy has ancient ruins which date from 3000 BC and is set in an impressive and beautiful location. Troy’s ancient city walls are still visible along with other ruins to explore, such as parts of the theatre. Troy compared to other historical sites such as Ephesus or Pergamum does not offer as much to see, however it is still an impressive site to visit. In ancient times Troy controlled the passage to the Black Sea, taking taxes from ships waiting for good winds in the harbour. Nearby the historical site is the village of Hisarlik with a few local restaurants and shops.
